PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Five schools in Providence and two in Pawtucket have been named to a list of the state's persistently lowest-achieving schools.
The state Department of Education said on Friday that each of the seven schools must identify a reform model by late next month, and Education Commissioner Deborah Gist (gist) must approve it.
Officials said this is the second group of schools to be named persistently lowest-achieving.
The schools in Providence named Friday are Carl G. Lauro Elementary School, Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School, Gilbert Stuart Middle School, Mount Pleasant High School and Pleasant View Elementary School.
The Pawtucket schools are Charles E. Shea Senior High School and William E. Tolman Senior High School.
