The University of Massachusetts and a Connecticut bus company are offering what they say is the first-ever transit certificate program. UMass Amherst’s transit system, the College of Engineering’s transportation center, and Hartford-based CTTRANSIT collaborated to create a certificate program in transit management and operations. Federal transportation officials are funding it with a $127,284 grant. Allan E. Byam, general manager of Transit Services at UMass Amherst, says the program will help future transit workers get a job. Academic details are being drafted with a professor of civil and environmental engineering and the director of the UMass Transportation Center.
