Michelle Obama has a message for students considering college: File for federal financial aid.
On Wednesday, she said that filing the form is an important first step for students who want to finish their education — but that too many don’t bother to apply for the $150 billion in aid that is available because they wrongly think they can’t afford college.
Changes in the application process have made filling out the form easier, she said, meaning there’s now no reason not to file for loans and grants available through the Education Department.
‘‘Fill out those forms. Fill them out!’’ Obama said at a workshop where high school seniors and their parents were getting help filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.
