Sometimes a little showmanship — show-womanship? — can go a long way.
Girl Scout Katie Francis, 12, just edged past the organization’s all-time record for cookie sales this Sunday, pulling in 18,107 boxes in just seven weeks, the AP reports.
The previous record was 18,000 boxes, and had been held by former scout Elizabeth Brinton since the 1980s.
Francis told The Oklahoman’s Brandy McDonnell that she maintains a simple strategy:
"I have to be unique, because there are hundreds of other girls out there selling [cookies] -- I sing and dance to attract customers' attention."
Francis also sought sponsorships from local concert halls, day spas and restaurants to incentivize bulk purchases with raffle tickets and other prizes.
Her troop will receive a portion of the proceeds and plans to donate the funds to breast cancer research, according to the AP.
