The design community came out in force Wednesday for a trio of celebrations at the Boston Design Center. Interior decorator Tom Scheerer, who has transformed many a New England manse and summer home, signed copies of his new book, “Tom Scheerer Decorates.” The designer said he hadn’t been to Boston since 1975, when he studied for a year at Boston University before moving to New York to study architecture. Scheerer — dapper in a khaki trachten jacket (think Captain von Trapp) with a purple bandana pocket square — designs with a nod to his environs, and embraces New England-ness wholeheartedly.
