Gisele Bundchen learned English from Boyz II Men

When she came to this country as a teenager, Brazilian beauty Gisele Bundchen couldn’t speak a lick of English. But thanks to a couple of unlikely instructors, she eventually learned. During an appearance Monday on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” Tom Brady’s bride credited “wonderful cassette tapes” that included songs by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey with teaching her at least an approximation of the King’s English. “Just, like, beautiful soft spoken words,” she said of the songs. “I have to thank [the artists] one day if I ever meet them in person. They were very inspiring.” (Bundchen even sang a snippet of Boyz II Men’s “A Song for Mama” for Fallon.) But make no mistake, the 32-year-old supermodel speaks only Portuguese with her children around the house. “Benjamin is 4 and I only speak with him in Portuguese,” she said. “Sometimes he tries to speak in English and I’m, like, ‘I don’t understand so you have to speak in Portuguese.” That her husband has no idea what she and the kids are saying is apparently not a problem. “Sometimes I tell my son, ‘Don’t worry, daddy doesn’t know anything,” Bundchen said. Because Brady’s language is limited to football and English, she said she’s told him, “You have to learn Portuguese, you have no other option.” The glamazon also proved she’s not just a pretty face. Even wearing an Emilio Pucci one-shoulder jumpsuit, Bundchen showed great skill during a goofy game of flip-cup with Fallon and fellow guest Matthew McConaughey.
