When he hasn’t been busy watching the Red Sox or dining out at one of the city’s many fine restaurants — he’s been spied at Red Lantern, Scampo, and Legal Sea Foods in recent days — actor John Travolta (center) has been getting ready for the film “The Forger,” which is in rehearsals but due to begin shooting shortly. Monday, Travolta showed up on the set with a touch of gray in his hair — OK, maybe that’s not his hair — where he was greeted by costar Tye Sheridan (in Red Sox cap), who plays his son in the movie. “The Forger,” which will film extensively at the MFA, is about a former child art prodigy and thief who buys his way out of prison to spend time with his ailing son. Christopher Plummer plays Travolta’s father.
