We don’t know much about his politics, but New York mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio is obviously a man of great judgment when it comes to baseball. The city’s public advocate and the Democratic candidate to succeed Michael Bloomberg as mayor grew up in Cambridge and is a diehard Red Sox fan. That’s right, according to a story in The New York Times, de Blasio has a more than mild disdain for the Yankees. “I have my loyalty to the team of my youth,” he told the paper, characterizing it as a “deep devotion.” Clearly, if de Blasio is elected, Red Sox Nation won’t be subjected, as we were with Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani, to televised images of New York’s mayor looking smug in a Yankees cap.
