The folks at The Food Project held their annual gala at the studios of WGBH, and paid tribute to Will Allen, a former professional basketball player and founder of Growing Power Inc. (Located outside Milwaukee, Growing Power is considered to be the country’s preeminent urban farm.) Begun in Boston in 1992, The Food Project teaches city kids how to grow their own food. This week’s fund-raiser featured a slew of local chefs and restaurateurs, including AKA Bistro’s Chris Chung and Christian Touche, Davio’s owner Steve DeFillippo, EVOO’s Peter McCarthy, Gordon Hamersley of Hamersley’s Bistro, and Sammy the Flatbread Cart’s Maryann Saporito.
