One teenager was killed and another seriously injured when their car crashed into a tree in Oakham early Sunday morning, police said.
The male 17-year-old was sitting in the passenger seat of a small sedan, which apparently skidded off Old Turnpike Road and hit a tree, said Oakham Police Sgt. Kevin Tucker.
The driver, also 17, was seriously injured but was in stable condition Sunday evening at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Tucker said. The driver is expected to survive.
Tucker declined to release the identities of the victim and the driver, who had not been charged Sunday evening.
According to police, the crash was reported at 4:22 a.m., but it is unclear when exactly it occurred. It is not known if speed or alcohol were a factor.
The investigation continues.
