A 29-year-old Methuen man who was wanted for brutally assaulting a woman last weekend in New Hampshire was found hiding in the bathroom of a deli in New York City today after an intensive manhunt, State Police said.
Walton Valentin was found in a deli on Anderson Avenue in the Bronx this afternoon. State Police and police from Lawrence, Andover, Methuen, and Salem, N.H., had been seeking him since the weekend, State Police said.
Valentin is being held pending rendition proceedings in the New York judicial system. Once he is rendered, he will face charges in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, State Police said in a statement.
Valentin allegedly beat and choked a woman in a Salem, N.H., hotel room on Saturday. He attempted to shoot the woman, but his gun misfired, and he then beat the woman with the weapon, State Police said. He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Valentin allegedly committed additional crimes against the same woman in Massachusetts last month. In that case, he faces charges that include assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful carrying of a firearm, violation of a protective order, and home invasion, State Police said.
