The bones discovered in a wooded area in Brockton by a hiker have been identified as human remains, but the cause of death is still unknown, officials said.
A local hiker who was walking a dog discovered the bones near East Street in Brockton Monday morning, according to a statement from Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office.
After a preliminary investigation, the bones were confirmed to be human, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and identity of the deceased, prosecutors said.
State Police detectives assigned to Cruz’s office and Brockton police are investigating.
No further details were immediately available.
