The Case of the Burgled Bovines has been cracked.

The two iconic cows that were stolen from the front of the Hilltop Steak House in Saugus have been rounded up, police said.

Earlier this month, the famous restaurant announced it was closing on Oct. 20, and patrons began to take home more than just leftover steak.

Two of the fiberglass cows the Hilltop is known for were taken, but due to the efforts of police and the public, they have been recovered in Saugus, Police Lieutenant Ronald Giorgetti said.

Because of an ongoing investigation, police will not release where the cows were found, names of anyone believed to be involved, or how they tracked down the fiberglass decorations, Giorgetti said.

Police have not issued any criminal charges, Giorgetti said.

Along with the cows, hundreds of plates and menus have been stolen from the restaurant.
