Ex-tax collector in Barre faces embezzlement charges

A former tax collector in the town of Barre was indicted Thursday after allegedly stealing more than $300,000 in public funds, prosecutors said.

Marcia Langelier, 61, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of larceny over $250 by a common scheme, fraud or embezzlement by a city officer, and making false entries in corporate books, the Worcester district attorney’s office said today.

Langelier allegedly stole the money between January 2011 and July 2011 while serving as the elected tax collector for the town.

She is to be arraigned Thursday in Worcester Superior Court, prosecutors said in a statement.
