Cool, with showers possible today, but clearing later tonight

A weak low pressure system will likely bring rain this afternoon and evening, and temperatures will average below normal. Beyond that, mostly dry weather is expected through next week, but the chilly temperatures will persist through at least Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

“We have got some sunshine today that will yield to a chance of showers this afternoon,” said Alan Dunham, weather service meteorologist. “There may be some sprinkles if you are somewhere downtown in Boston at around 8 tonight, but conditions will dry out as the evening progresses.”

Clouds will increase through today, and temperatures will hover in the mid-50s. Showers are possible after 3 p.m., and are most likely southeast of Interstate 95. Showers could continue until about 10 p.m., and temperatures will fall into the upper 30s, making for less than ideal conditions for Game 1 of the World Series, which kicks off tonight at 8:07 p.m.

“If you are at an event in downtown Boston tomorrow night, you will want to be wearing a good jacket,” Dunham said. “It will be windier Thursday night than it is tonight.”

Thursday will be mostly sunny, and temperatures will crest at around 53. A west wind will develop during the day, bringing gusts up to 30 miles per hour, according to the weather service. Clouds will develop overnight, and temperatures will fall into the 30s. Game 2 of the World Series should again see frigid temperatures, but rain is not expected, so conditions should slightly improve from Game 1.

Friday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 50. No rain or clouds are expected through the day, and a west wind will bring gusts up to 20 miles per hour, according to the weather service. Friday’s overnight temperatures will likely be the lowest of the week, falling into the low 30s. Much of southern New England will see freezing temperatures through Friday night.

A few spot showers are possible Saturday night, but beyond that, conditions over the weekend should be mostly sunny and dry. Saturday and Sunday will mostly sunny, with temperatures in the mid-50s. These conditions should continue until at least Tuesday, according to the weather service.
