An Andover man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly robbed a North Reading donut shop at knifepoint, days after authorities from 16 communities gathered to investigate a spate of Dunkin’ Donuts robberies.
An employee of Heav’nly Donuts on Winter Street called police around 4:30 a.m. Sunday to report that the store was being robbed, noting that the perpetrator was a man who had covered his face, according to a statement from the North Reading Police Department.
Police at the scene found and arrested Michael Quinlan, 25 of Andover, in a nearby parking lot and charged him with one count of armed robbery. Quinlan was being held on $25,000 cash bail and will be arraigned in Woburn District Court Monday, police said Sunday.
North Reading authorities said they are investigating whether the man has any potential link to the slew of Dunkin’ Donuts robberies. Since March, 23 Massachusetts branches of the national coffee chain have been robbed, leading police in the 16 affected communities to meet in Norwood last week to discuss strategies and compare notes about their investigations.
However, as of Sunday, North Reading police said there was no evidence linking Quinlan to the Dunkin’ Donuts crime spree.
