Transit Police seek man who allegedly caused MBTA bus to crash in Chelsea on Sunday

A man who allegedly assaulted an MBTA bus driver, causing the bus to veer off the road and smash into a parked car, has been identified and is now being sought by MBTA Transit Police.

The man was identified by Transit Police as Douglas Bergeron, 32, and police have obtained an arrest warrant from Chelsea District Court charging him with assault and battery on a public employee and interfering with public transportation.

The charges grew out of an incident, captured on the bus surveillance camera, that played out in Chelsea around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. According to police, Bergeron was allegedly a passenger on an MBTA bus traveling along Broadway in Chelsea when he become upset at the driver, stuck his face directly next to the driver’s face before the driver pushed him away.

The bus is seen on the surveillance video veering to the right and then crashing into a parked car.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, police said.
