A Worcester man is to be arraigned today after crashing his car early this morning and biting his girlfriend, State Police said.
Santos Gomez, 35, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, mayhem, assault with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lanes violation, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, State Police said in a statement.
The couple had left Mohegan Sun and dropped off Gomez’s family when the crash occurred around 2 a.m. on Route 146 on the ramp to Interstate 290 in Worcester, the statement said.
Gomez was angry about the way his girlfriend had treated his grandmother, and became combative towards her. He began turning the vehicle’s steering wheel and crashed into a Jersey barrier. Gomez then moved across the seat, grabbed his girlfriend by the neck, and bit her nose, the statement said.
A Grafton man saw their vehicle against the barrier and pulled over to assist them. He found the victim bleeding and crying and let her wait in his vehicle. He called 911 and kept Gomez away from the victim until police arrived, the statement said.
Gomez made statements about having too many alcoholic beverages and assaulting his girlfriend, the statement said.
Both Gomez and the victim were treated at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, the statement said.
