A shutdown of autumn as well — summer returns briefly across Mass.

This week’s dry and unseasonably warm weather will continue through Thursday, after which some showers will come to Massachusetts Friday into early Saturday. The weekend will see a mixture of sun and clouds, with more rain likely, according to the National Weather Service.

“There will be a nice stretch of weather coming up,” said William Babcock, weather service meteorologist. “It will get cloudy later in the week, but steady rain is unlikely.”

Today will be sunny and clear, with summer-like temperatures. A few clouds could develop in northwestern Massachusetts late in the afternoon, and temperatures will hover in the low 80s, though some areas could see temperatures jump into the high 80s before nightfall. Skies will remain clear overnight, and temperatures will fall into the mid-50s, according to the weather service.

Thursday will be sunny, with a high around 76, according to the weather service. A sea breeze may develop, cooling temperatures a few degrees along the immediate coast. Clouds will develop overnight, and temperatures will fall to around 58.

Friday will be mostly cloudy, with showers developing after 10 a.m. Temperatures will again reach into the mid-70s, and some weak southerly winds will develop. Rain will continue overnight into Saturday morning, according to the weather service.

“By no means is the weekend going to be a washout,” Babcock said. “Both days should be pretty nice, with no intense rain.”

Showers will persist before 1 p.m. Saturday, but sun is likely to arrive in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach into the mid-70s and drop to around 60 overnight.
