Wicked nice weather for today, the weekend and next week

A high pressure system over New England today will stick around through the weekend, bringing mild days and cool nights. Skies will remain mostly sunny through the weekend, and could last into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

“We will have tremendous fall weather for Saturday and Sunday,” said Alan Dunham, weather service meteorologist. “It will be perfect for leaf peeping and apple picking.”

Today will be mostly cloudy, though some sun will break through at times. Temperatures will become cooler than earlier in the week, with a daytime high of around 65. A northeast wind will develop through the day, bringing gusts up to 13 miles per hour, according to the weather service. Skies will clear overnight, with light winds and temperatures dropping into the 40s.

Saturday will be a near perfect autumn day, with sunny skies and a light north wind, the weather service says.

Temperatures will climb into the low 70s, according to the weather service. Rain isn’t expected through the day, and skies will remain clear overnight, as temperatures drop into the low 50s.

Sunday will also be sunny, with temperatures cresting around 72 degrees. A sea breeze will develop in the afternoon, cooling temperatures a degree or two along the coast, according to the weather service.

Some rain could hit the state Monday, but next week will again see mostly pleasant conditions.

“Right now, the best chance of rain will be Monday on the Outer Cape, but there is a lot of variability, so nothing is set in stone,” Dunham said. “Once we get into Tuesday, we should go into another dry stretch with temperatures in the mid-70s.”
