A 27-year-old Lawrence woman is to be arraigned Tuesday for allegedly stealing items from a cosmetic store and a lingerie store at the Northshore Mall in Peabody, police said.
Jennifer Santos faces six charges of larceny over $250 and three counts of trespassing, Peabody police said in a statement.
Santos will be arraigned at Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington. Essex district attorney’s office spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan said she didn’t know why Santos was in the hospital.
The amount of merchandise Santos stole will be disclosed at the arraignment, Kimball-Monahan said.
In May, the Peabody department began investigating repeated thefts from the Victoria’s Secret and Sephora stores at the mall. Police released a picture of the suspect to the media, which allowed them to identify the woman as Santos. At first, they were unable to locate her, the statement said.
After about four months of investigation, police were able to locate Santos at her Cedar Street home and arrested her without incident at 2 p.m. Friday, the statement said.
Lawrence police, the US Marshals Service, the Essex County sheriff's department, Northshore Mall Security, and Sephora and Victoria’s Secret store security, assisted Peabody police.
The investigation is ongoing and far-reaching, looking at thefts from other Massachusetts and New Hampshire shopping malls, the statement said.
