A rainy week sets the stage for a nice weekend, National Weather Service says

Following a sunny weekend, clouds and rain are returning to Massachusetts. Showers and a few thunderstorms will develop today and stick around until Wednesday. Today will be cloudy, as temperatures climb to near 80, according to the National Weather Service.

“It’s a 50/50 chance for showers today, and there might be a thunderstorm afternoon,” said Eleanor Vallier-Talbot, Weather Service meteorologist. “Dew points will be creeping up into the low to mid 60s, so it’s going to get sticky out there.”

Light scattered showers will pelt the state this morning, then break up until late this afternoon, with showers and thunderstorms possible after 5 p.m. Southwest Massachusetts has the greatest chance of heavy rain today. Clouds and rain will continue tonight, and temperatures will be in the 60s, the Weather Service said.

Tuesday morning will become clear, though some clouds will come after noon. There is a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., but most of the state should see some sun. Temperatures will again reach the low 80s, though a sea breeze along the coast will moderate temperatures a few degrees.

Showers will develop after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, as skies remain cloudy. Temperatures will hit 80, and dew points will remain high.

Sun will return Thursday and stay until the end of the weekend. Thursday will be partly sunny, as dew points in the 60s keep things sticky. The high for Thursday is 80 degrees, according to the Weather Service. A few spot showers can’t be ruled out Thursday, though most of the state should remain dry.

Dry weather will prevail Friday into the weekend, as humidity levels drop and temperatures remain in the low 80s.

“It should stay dry Saturday, and warm up a bit on Sunday,” Vallier-Talbot said. “The weekend looks pretty good.”
