Wakefield police officer struck by sport utility vehicle

A Wakefield police officer working an early-morning traffic detail was struck by a sport utility vehicle, police said.

The officer, Joseph Conway, was struck at 7:17 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and North Avenue by a 2011 Honda Pilot, said Wakefield Police Sergeant George Thistle.

The driver of the SUV, a 39-year-old Stoneham man, has not been charged.

Conway’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Thistle said. The driver reported no injuries. The crash is under investigation.
