Woman dies after being hit by Red Line train

An 80-year-old Brockton woman died Sunday evening after being struck by an MBTA Red Line train on the tracks of the Kendall/MIT station. Service at seven busy stops on the Red Line was interrupted for over an hour because of the incident, according to T authorities. Officials are investigating how the woman got on the tracks, but Joe Pesaturo, T spokesman, said she did not fall, nor was she pushed. The grandson of the unidentified woman entered the platform moments after the 4:30 p.m. incident, Pesaturo said. Red Line trains from Central Square to Broadway experienced “significant delays” for an hour. This is the second time this month a person on MBTA tracks was struck by a train. On July 6, the body of a man in his 30s was removed from Davis Square T station in Somerville. The man’s cause of death was not immediately available.
