The body of a woman was recovered today from the shallow waters in front of the L Street Bathhouse on William Day Boulevard in South Boston, officials said.
At 9:31 a.m. Boston police arrived to find the body near 233 William Day Boulevard, Boston police said.
Boston EMS workers pronounced the victim dead upon arrival, police said.
The cause of death is being determined in an autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office, a spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.
Authorities are trying to confirm the woman’s identity and notify her next of kin, said spokesman Jake Wark.
The discovery led State and Boston police to close off a section of Carson Beach between M Street and the bathhouse as they investigated the death.
A boat patrolling the area appeared to be inspecting boats moored off the beach.
Except for the area cordoned off by police, Carson Beach seemed to have drawn normal crowds today, the fifth straight day the region is sweltering in a a heat wave.
The woman’s death is currently under investigation by the department’s homicide unit.
