Carver man held after allegedly beating pregnant fiancée in front of 1-year-old child

A Carver man allegedly beat his pregnant fiancée, slamming her head into a kitchen table and floor and kicking and slapping her in the face in front of their 1-year-old child, police said in a statement Sunday.

Robert Harris, 41, was ordered held without bail after Carver Police arrested him shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday at a home on Cranberry Circle, while his fiancée was hospitalized, police said.

Harris’ 28-year-old fiancée told officers that when she tried to call police, he took her cell phone from her and threw it, police said.

The fiancée had visible injuries, which police said were not serious. The woman was treated and released from the hospital later Sunday, according to police.

The 1-year-old and the unborn child were not injured, police said.

Harris is expected to be arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – a shod foot and kitchen table – and intimidating a witness, the statement said.
