A two-alarm fire that broke out in an abandoned school building in Taunton today fully consumed the structure, said Lieutenant Kevin Farrar of the Taunton Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the Canteen Building of the now-abandoned Paul A Dever State School at 1498 Bay St. around 11 a.m., Farrar said. By the time they arrived, the blaze was so intense that they were ordered not to enter the building, he said.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause has not been determined, Farrar said.
At least one of the building’s walls has collapsed, he said.
The school served mentally disabled students until it closed in 2002.
