The Coast Guard is searching for a 45-foot fishing boat with two men aboard that was reported missing this morning.
The Gloucester-based Foxy Lady II was last reported 15 miles north of Provincetown, Coast Guard spokesman Adam Stanton said. The missing vessel was reported overdue at 8 a.m. by the girlfriend of the ship’s 50-year-old captain, who said the captain was on the vessel, along with a 25-year-old crew member.
“It was just supposed to be a day trip, but they didn’t come back,” Stanton said.
He said the Coast Guard had no clues why the Foxy Lady II might be missing, but that searchers from several Coast Guard stations were continuing to look for the vessel and had no reason to give up hope.
Throughout the day, the Coast Guard searched by boat and helicopter for the missing ship, but as bad weather began to move into the area this afternoon, the aircraft were grounded, Coast Guard spokesman Jeff Hall said.
“Bad weather is not good to be out in, not fun to be out in,” he said. “It just doubles our efforts because we know the person is out there in even worse conditions.”
