Man killed in early morning shooting in Dorchester

Boston police are investigating an apparent homicide in Dorchester early this morning, police said.

Officers responded to the Edson Street area after receiving a report of a gunshot around 1:43 a.m. today. Moments later, police found a man, believed to be in his late 20s, suffering from a gunshot wound outside 36 Whitman St., one block away from where the gunfire was reported, police said.

The man was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police urged anyone with information to call the Boston police homicide unit, at 617-343-4470. Those who wish to leave an anonymous tip should call 800-494-8477 or text “TIP” to 27463.

No arrests have been made. The name of the shooting victim has not been released.
