Former governor Paul Cellucci endorsed US Senator Scott Brown by video this morning, calling him a rare figure willing to work across the aisle in Congress.
Cellucci, who has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, speaks from his wheelchair in a clear voice, pausing occasionally.
“I see Scott as what I call a Weld-Cellucci Republican, someone who is moderate on social issues, conservative on fiscal issues, but always willing to work with Republicans and Democrats to find solutions for problems that are facing our country,” he says, looking into the camera. “I would say we need more people, desperately need more people, like Scott Brown in the Congress.”
The endorsement is not a surprise. Cellucci is a fellow Republican who worked with Brown on Beacon Hill, when Brown served as a representative.
Brown, who won a special election in 2010 to fill the seat left vacant by the death of long-time senator Edward M. Kennedy, is facing a strong challenge from Democrat Elizabeth Warren.
