Hometown: Keiyo, Kenya
Personal best: 2:06:58 (Rotterdam, 2008)
Career notes: In New York last year, Daniel Rono earned his first podium finish at a World Marathon Majors race and said of his decision to run Boston, "I am interested in experiencing another US marathon and, like New York, one which has a tough course." His expectations for Boston are high. "I can run well in all types of conditions and courses, so after my third place in New York, I am also confident that with the right preparation I can do well in Boston." Rono's proudest achievement was a more than two-minute improvement on his personal best to finish under the 2:07 barrier in Rotterdam. Of his seven career marathons, he has never finished out of the top three. Rono's best half marathon is 1:00:14, set in Groningen in 2002, but as recently as last year he ran 1:00:27 at the Rotterdam Half Marathon.
Personal notes: Rono said he started running as a young boy in Keiyo, and began competing in road races internationally in 2001. His Boston preparation includes training on the forest trails surrounding his home in Eldoret. Rono completed high school and is single.
