Hometown: Tigray, Ethiopia
Personal best: 2:08:46 (Seoul, 2008)
Career notes: Solomon Molla is new to the marathon, having made the transition to the distance after competing as a junior at two IAAF World Cross Country Championships (9th in 2003 and 8th in 2005) and running the summer road race circuit in the US in 2007. Although he had many top-10 performances on the circuit, including third at the Azalea Trail 10k and fourth at the Cooper River Bridge Run, he felt he could accomplish more in the marathon. Beginning marathon training in November of 2007, Molla entered the Marrakesh Marathon two months later to finish comfortably in seventh. Continuing to train, he improved by almost seven minutes to finish as runner-up in Ottawa. In Seoul in November, Molla made a breakthrough, winning the race and improving his time by more than two minutes to 2:08:46.
Personal notes: Molla trains in Addis Ababa with coach Haji Adilo. He is part of the Atlas Mountains Athletics team organized by Rachid Tbahi and Betsi Hill.
