Department stores, ad agencies, and magazine editors all spend a good chunk of the year considering what kinds of gifts people want for the holidays. Millions of dollars annually ride on identifying the season's hottest toy or video game or sneaker -- and stocking store shelves with them in hopes that shoppers will turn out in droves. But what people really want -- and what they secretly hope for -- is often as unique and quirky as they are. Insect jewelry? A "Remains of the Day" lunchbox? Edible antlers? Sounds like Santa's got some work to do.
