In honor of National Running Day, I need your help.

When I started this blog, it was created solely with the intent of documenting my stab at getting healthier.

But then, over the months, it morphed into much more. Suddenly, the blog was a place I was repeatedly drawing inspiration from (thanks in no small part due to my incredible readers who leave comments, e-mail, and tweet at me).

It also opened up an entire community to me that used to intimidate the heck out of me because I was not "one of them": Runners.

Now, some of my closest friends are people I've met through this blog and through running. That fact alone has made all the miles I've logged worth it.

So, it seems fitting that I am asking my running buddies to help me celebrate today by sending me photos of what they ran today, while I tell you a little bit about some of the people who have endured my endless chatter on long runs, or who never fail to text or tweet me on race day, or who compel me to keep running even when my head tells me to stop.

Once I've collected all of their photos, I'll post them here, on the blog. My running
crew is quite diverse, as I'm sure you'll see once the photos begin trickling in. There are newbies and veterans, college kids and grandparents, hardcore runners and those who run only because they don't like any other sports.

These are some of the people behind my strides. To you, as a reader, they may seem like a mish-mosh of miles and sneakers and routes traveled. To me, they are my cure to every bad day.

On long runs and in tweets, in e-mails and Facebook likes, these people have been my career gurus, my shoulder to cry on, my writing muses, my giggle-partners ...

The cheering squad on the days my self-doubt is loudest; they are the people who have seen me at both my weakest and my strongest and have not judged.

You're in there, too, because whether you run or not, I carry your comments and encouragement with me every time I lace up my shoes.

I run because it widens my circle of incredible people just a little bit more each day.

Why do you run? And, if you run today, be sure to tweet at me @EJComeau with the tag #getmoving so I can share your photo here as well ...

Why do some people become lactose intolerant as they age?
All of us are born with the ability to make an enzyme called lactase, which helps our small intestines digest the otherwise unwieldy sugar lactose found in milk.
