Who am I? Blogger Elizabeth Comeau shares random things about herself

Lately, I've been getting more than a few e-mails from people asking who I am -- because some of you are late joiners to this blog.

First: Thanks for joining me here in crazy town -- welcome! Second: I figured the fastest way to bring you late-joiners up to speed was to do a quick and dirty post about yours truly.

But if you want to know what's what and you're just catching up here, this post is for you. Let's just jump right in, shall we?

I am honest above all else, and it's not always pretty.
I started blogging about 78 pounds heavier than I currently weigh. I have changed my eating habits, changed my fitness habits, and still have much work to do. I consider myself a work in progress, and I don't like being told what to do or when to do something. I also really dislike being told I can't do something -- even if I tell that to myself. The truth? I'm weird. I'm quirky and blunt and short and loud. But no one is really "normal" are they? I'm blogging to share this journey, and connect you with fitness experts along the way who might answer your questions about your own personal fitness journeys, which I encourage you to share here.

I am my own worst enemy.
I am hard on myself. Very hard. I'm a runner who swears her legs aren't long enough (and I call myself a stump because of this). I'm not sure my body can keep up with all the things I'd like to accomplish, but you know what? I'm going to keep pushing. That's what I do. I push myself because I feel like the mere act of pushing makes me a better person.

I've been a journalist since I was 18 years old
If I am not running, I am writing. I divide any spare time I have -- when my family is away or asleep or doing something without me -- between running and writing. I started here at The Boston Globe when I was 18, as a co-op who wrote obituaries. Writing is in my blood. Writing is like breathing to me: It is something I must do. I was a news producer at before taking on my current role of Health & Wellness producer, where I work alongside Boston Globe health & science reporters to cover the latest health news and provide information on an array of topics. I have worked nights, weekends, and everything in between, and I'm trying to balance my work and home lives with my fitness journey, like so many of you readers out there.

I have a lot of energy, and 99 percent of it is NOT from coffee.
People often ask me how I manage to drag my rump out of bed at 4 a.m. every day to exercise or how I manage to work full time, have a family, write at all hours of the day and night, and the truth is it's actually very simple: I like to do things. All of these things. I am one of those people who loves to try new things. I love to be active. Call me crazy. Call me the Energizer Bunny. I have always had this boundless energy ... ask my college roommate, She'll tell you how I used to re-arrange our dorm room just for something to do at moments I couldn't sit still.

I'm a local gal. Mostly.
Despite the fact that I was born in Virginia, I have grown up in Massachusetts (and I only was in Virginia for a few days after birth). I say "bubbler" instead of drinking fountain. I went to Simmons College . I lived "away" from Boston twice: For a few years in Maine and year and half in Florida. I have decided I don't fit anywhere but Boston. It's my home.

So how do these characteristics mesh and meld into my fitness journey? To be honest, I haven't quite figured that out yet. Maybe I never will. But that's what I'm trying to do here with this blog -- bring you along on my journey and figure some things out along the way.

And now you know a little bit more about me than you did yesterday, and for those of you who faithfully come back and read my blog every week, I feel it's only fair to share at least this much with you. From day 1, I said I wanted to know your stories, too, so go ahead and leave me three random facts about yourself in the comments here (or use the form at right to e-mail me if you prefer).
