For a while now I've been mulling the "T" word over in my head.
Could I do it? Am I strong enough? Am I crazy?
After running my 10 miler, I know as long as I keep my training up, I'll be in fine shape for my half marathon in October, so I really need something to focus on this summer.
So, I registered for a triathlon (*pause for dramatic emphasis*).
Some of you, who I have conversed with at length about all things related to fitness in my life, probably saw this coming. In fact, I'm 99.9 percent positive that one of my first readers of this blog downright predicted I would do this.
Now, before you all think I really have gone off the deep end, I should specify I signed up for a sprint, which is not the same as a full triathlon: think of it as a baby triathlon.
The Westborough Sprint triathlon consists of a .25-mile swim, a 14-mile bike loop, and finally, a 3-mile run.
I am both insanely excited and extremely nervous.
Swimming? In open water? Well, in my high school and college days I was a lifeguard, so I'm not *terribly* worried about the swim, although I am definitely rusty.
Biking? I do that purely on a recreational basis, and I do mostly mountain biking. But this is not mountain biking.
As for the run, well, I feel like doing a 3-mile run AFTER both a swim and a bike ride that long is bound to be hard.
But then, by now you know, I like a challenge.
So there you have it. You have lots of posts to look forward to that will consist of all things related to a subject I know absolutely nothing about. And, for the record, I'm going to need a lot of help and encouragement figuring all this stuff out, so you've all been put on notice ...
