In case you don't know it by now, I'm incredibly nervous and excited about running my first half-marathon.
But, despite all of the writing I've done about the training and prep work I've put into this race, I realized I haven't shared the other details occupying my brain-space about the day yet.
Here's the lowdown:
Having attended an all-women's college (shout-out to Simmons!), the idea behind this race appealed to me immensely. So, I'll be racing in the All Women & One lucky guy half-marathon Nov. 4 in Newburyport. The course looks like it will be beautiful, and not terribly hilly (always a plus in my book), and there's something about the idea of being able to run with other mothers, daughters, sisters that just strikes me as interesting.

Right now, I'm in the process of rounding up as many friends and family to go to the race as I can. I don't know exactly who will be there yet, but when I do, I'm going to apply the same technique I used during my 5K race and make sure I put one song in my playlist that reminds me of each person attending the race for me. It may sound wacky, but it really helps me focus during the tougher miles if I can think to myself "OK, Elizabeth, just go enjoy Joe's song and worry about everything else later." Having a song for each person helps remind me that I've gotten a lot of support during my training, so while I may be running solo, many people helped me get to race day.
How to follow how I'm doing that day:
Clearly, I'll tweet before and after the race from @BeWellBoston, but I'm recruiting several friends to tweet when they see me on the course and about the race in general using the hashtag #SeeStumpRun (to learn the history of the "stump" story, see my previous post on that.)
So, expect Twitpics and tweets. And, if you want to wish me well, or are at the race to cheer me on (the more the merrier!) be sure to use #SeeStumpRun. I won't tweet back while I'm running, but will do my best to respond after the race.
How I need your help:
Now that you know that I like to put songs on my playlist that remind me of all the people who have helped me in my training along the way, I need a song that makes me think of you (yes, you!) You, the readers of this blog have offered me support, tough talk, running advice, and just generally been a giant part of my training by simply reading about my trials and tribulations each week. Therefore, I want to put one song on my playlist that reminds me of each of your comments. My only criteria is that it be a faster-paced song (think 150-180 beats per minute). Tweet me your suggestions using #RunList or by leaving a comment on the Be Well, Boston Facebook page (again, be sure to use #RunList in whatever suggestion you have.) Please include the name of the artist, the name of the song, and, if you can find one, a YouTube clip so I can hear the song never hurt. As we get closer to race day, I'll pick the song I think works best with the rest of my race-day playlist, and you'll find out if I picked your song suggestion. What's in it for you? Just bragging rights and the knowledge that you helped get me over the finish line.
