I've written before on this blog about my healthy eating philosophy: I don't dig fad diets. I follow the MyPlate guidelines as best as I can, and I track everything I eat with Lose It, an app that tracks my calories in, calories out, as well as my workouts.
But I've gotten many e-mails from people asking what following the MyPlate guidelines looks like. Here are the official guidelines for your reference, and I've also come up with something I'm hoping you will all participate in right along with me. Starting today and then every Tuesday, I'll post a photo of my most recent meal using the Twitter hashtag #eatittweetit. I'm working hard to follow the MyPlate guidelines, so this is what my plate looks like as a result:
What I had: A banana, nonfat Greek yogurt, black coffee: Total calories: 231 #eatittweetit
Plus, I'll tell you about how many calories the meal is according to my Lose It database information. And, for my lunch-time meals, I'm joining Lose It's challenge to keep that meal under 450 calories.
One important note: I'm not telling you *what* to eat. I'm telling you what *I* eat, and I'd like to see what you eat. Once our Hometown Wellness Challenge starts, I'm hoping this simple task will help you log your food and exercise to help you earn easy points.
