Sip some wine at the elegant and friendly Marliave (10 Bosworth St., near the corner of Bromfield Street, 617-422-0004). Head to the generally quiet third floor. $14 (for two of the least expensive selections). Add tip: $2.
Walk down Washington Street to Felt (533 Washington St., Boston, 617-350-5555, www.feltclubboston.com). We know - you think Felt is a dance club. It is. From Tuesdays through Fridays, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., it also offers complimentary pool and 2-for-$5 mini-sandwiches, each of which, we're told, is about half the size of a regular sandwich. Selections include cheeseburger, veggie burger, and pulled pork, all fully dressed and served with fries. Pictured: Kathryn Goryl lines up a shot.
If it's a Thursday or Friday and you and your date are feeling adventurous post-pool, head to Mojitos (48 Winter St., Boston, 617-988-8123) for a salsa lesson (at 9:15) and as much dancing as you can stand. This is where the forethought comes in: Admission is normally $10, but if you sign up online beforehand (www.mojitosboston.com), you're in for $5 (so, $10 for two).
