IMG_4066.JPGThe Summer of Riesling began at Terroir Wine Bar in New York's East Village in 2008 when sommelier/owner Paul Grieco decided that his by-the-glass program that summer would consist solely of wine made from the riesling grape. He described the risky move as as "a single-minded attempt to get guests to at least try this noble grape."

Since then, under Grieco's leadership and with the participation of the International Riesling Foundation and Wines of Germany, the Summer of Riesling has gone national, and Boston bars and restaurants have jumped onboard in a big way with a season-long agenda of riesling-centric events. Participating spots commit to pouring three rieslings by the glass until the last day of summer.

The Recipe Box Project:

If you want to contribute a recipe to The Recipe Box Project, please write it below. Also tell us where you got it (package box, cookbook, mom, friend -- include the name). We're looking for the kinds of dishes that people grew up on, that were served at family suppers, that tell a story, that are typically New England, or that you brought with you from a far away place to New England. We will print one of the recipes in the Food section once a month. To ask any questions, write to Debra Samuels, who is overseeing this project, at To discuss your recipes, click here.
