Holiday Inspiration

It's the most wonderful time of year! You know, that time where you spend tons of money on everyone else, have to endure some awkward family photo-ops and slave away in the kitchen trying to convince everyone you're a pro when it comes to entertaining. In case you need some last minute entertaining ideas, here are some of our favorites from this holiday season.

Cocktail art. Instead of going for the traditional warm spice cocktail, try something light and white. This drink is a special from bartender Domingo of Jean Georges' Market in the W Hotel. It's made with a lychee puree and dotted with chili oil and cilantro oil.

Bacon wrapped butternut squash. Because everyone loves bacon, and this is an easy-to-throw-together-at-the-last-minute type of appetizer that doubles as a guaranteed crowd pleaser. This recipe is from a local blogger, Jen, The Beantown Baker.

Main Course:
Rum ham. Thank you, Danny Devito. Inspired by It's Always Sunny's character Frank wanting to eat and get drunk at the same time, local blogger, Dan from The Food In My Beard made a rum soaked ham for his holiday party. The sweetness of rum pairs perfectly with a holiday ham.

Homemade Trifle. Trifles are beautiful and always please a crowd. If your guests don't agree (although that probably won't happen), whatever, just eat it all yourself. This trifle recipe has a toffee topping with layers of chocolate cake, cream and chocolate pudding.

Thin Mint Biscotti. This recipe from local blogger, Emily from A Cambridge Story, combines more than one holiday tradition into the dessert: candy canes, mint flavor and chocolate. Um, yes please.

Carrot Scallion Latke. Switch it up this year and use some different ingredients in your potato pancakes. This recipe from Food52 is also gluten free!
