Recipes for newlyweds, newcomers to stove

If you’re newly married - or new to apartment life, or new to the idea that every night doesn’t need to include takeout - you can succeed in the kitchen if you follow a simple rule: Make the same thing again and again until you get it right. Newcomers to the stove get hung up when they try to make different dishes every time they pull out the skillets. You need to find menus you won’t get tired of preparing. For guests, roast a plump chicken with vegetables, and follow it with the English whipped cream and fruit dessert raspberry fool. After work, put together a pot of rice, something like fried rice (except there’s no frying), with peas, ham, and a soft-cooked egg, which spills into the mixture and makes a sauce. Pull out all that gorgeous tableware, even just for yourselves, and dine in style.
