Bean soup mix

Makes 6 pint jars

Each jar makes enough soup to serve 6. You'll need 6 pint jars and lids and 6 sandwich bags. For directions to make the soup, see to simmer soup recipe. Attach instructions to your gift card.

1 pound (2 cups) green split peas
1 pound (2 cups) pinto beans
1 pound (2 cups) pearl barley
1 pound (2 cups) black beans
1 pound (2 cups) red kidney beans
1 pound (2 cups) Great Northern beans
4 tablespoons (12 teaspoons) ground black pepper
2 tablespoons (6 teaspoons) dried thyme
1 tablespoon (3 teaspoons) cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon (3 teaspoons) paprika

1. In each jar, pour 1/3 cup split peas, 1/3 cup pinto beans, pearl barley, black beans, kidney beans, Great Northern beans.

2. Using small bags, put 2 teaspoons black pepper, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon paprika into each one. Tuck the bags in the jar or attach to the jars.
