Serves 6

The Dowse family eats this with whole milk poured on the top.

5apples, peeled, cored, and cut up
1/2cup water
1teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1cup sugar
3/4cup flour
Ice cream or whole milk (for serving)

1. Set the oven at 375 degrees. Have on hand an 8-inch square baking dish.

2. Spread the apples in the dish. Pour the water over them and sprinkle with cinnamon; set aside.

3. In a bowl stir together the butter and sugar. Stir in the flour; the mixture will be crumbly.

4. Sprinkle the flour mixture over the apples. Bake for 45 minutes or until the apples are soft (but not mushy) and the topping is lightly browned. Serve warm with ice cream or milk. Adapted from Pam Dowse
