Christine Liu, 26, editor, Boston
PROBLEM "I'm 4-foot-11, so every pair of jeans or pants has to be shortened," says Liu. "I've done some embarrassing moves in my time, like buying capri-length jeans and assuming they'd look OK on me as regular-length jeans. On me, jeans tend to be tighter around the thighs and looser around the waist." Her ideal pair would be flexible and easy to move in and make her look taller and her waist appear smaller.
SOLUTION Joe's "The Muse" cotton-elasthanne high-waist jeans, $158
A cut that rests higher on the waist prevents love handles. The dark color doesn't draw unwanted attention to the hips and makes legs look longer. The color works for fall and winter, but the material is lightweight, so the jeans are good to go in summer, too.
