Elan Sassoon

Age: 39

Job: Owner, Mizu and Green Tangerine chains of salons; creator, Sojourn hair care (launching in January)

Do you have a personal uniform? Seven jeans, Hugo Boss shoes or boots, and a black American Apparel T-shirt. And my Bulgari scuba watch - it’s my most important accessory.

A well-dressed woman walks into the salon. What is she wearing? Nothing but accessories, confidence, and great hair.

Really? Nothing? Scandalous! Well, OK, she should be wearing clothes. But it’s the accessories that count. Good ones can make the outfit.

Any style tips for looking chic in a recession? Borrow your friends’ clothes, or shop at Zara. I go there a lot. They have great prices.

What’s your car of choice? I drive a big Range Rover, for the New England winter. If I could change the engine to fuel cell, electric, or a hybrid I would, but I can’t help loving the style of the Range Rover.

And your last major purchase? A Les Paul guitar at the new Guitar Center on Boylston Street. I only play for fun but I love it.

Why is having style important? I like to dress well because it makes me feel good. It’s important to show off your body if you take good care of it. I see too many guys wearing baggy clothes and sweatshirts and old sneakers. That’s great for the gym, but during the day you should be wearing something more fitted. Style can be a great creative daily adventure.
