CENTENNIAL SPECIALSThough its 100th birthday was earlier this year, Filene’s Basement is now getting around to celebrating its centennial with a series of special offers. Today, Saturday, and Oct. 31, the first 100 customers will receive a gift card worth $10, and from today until Nov. 1, all men’s suits will be $50-$200 off. From Nov. 1 through Nov. 7, stores will be collecting entries for a gift card worth $1,909 (the store’s founding year). Check www.filenesbasement.com for other centennial deals. Filene’s Basement is at 497 Boylston St., Boston, 617-424-5520, and 215-227 Needham St., Newton, 617-332-1295, not to mention South Shore Plaza. Find a complete list of locations on the website.
GALLERIA GALAThis evening, CambridgeSide Galleria hosts its Passport to Fashion event, with one-night deals and a fashion show meant, we’re told, to help folks translate the sometimes mystifying looks of the fashion week runways to their own wardrobes. Register online or in person and pick up a coupon book to take advantage of special deals, including 25 percent off full-priced merchandise at Ann Taylor, 20 percent off all services at Dellaria Salon, and free sampler bags, while they last, at Sephora. The event takes places from 5-8 p.m. CambridgeSide Galleria is at 100 CambridgeSide Place, Cambridge, 617-621-8666. Find all the details and register at www.shopcambridgeside.com.
MARK AN ANNIVERSARYGlassblower Luke Adams and potter and jeweler Marie Corcoran celebrate the first anniversary of their South End shop, Gifted, this weekend. There will be raffles from Friday through Sunday (as of this writing, prizes hadn’t been determined), and on Saturday, they will be giving away lovingly crafted glass hearts with each purchase. The store features well-priced tableware, handbags, jewelry, novelty items, and more, much of it made by local artists. Gifted is at 53 Dartmouth St., Boston, 603-494-8391. www.madebymarie.com
LIGHT MOMENTSRight around this time each year, we find ourselves in dire need of some cheerful lighting. So we’ll be stopping into Kartell, where, from Saturday through Nov. 15, all lighting will be 15 percent off. Among the colorful and elegant pieces on sale will be Toobe table lamps (pictured), normally $310 each but around $263.50 (before tax) during the sale. Kartell is at 10 Saint James Ave., Boston, 617-728-4442.
SCARE UP A COSTUMEStrapped for Halloween ideas and cash? We’d normally default to head-to-toe black and gaudy makeup, but this year, we are browsing Costumzee (www.costumzee.com) for inspiration. We skipped the Popular Costume Ideas section (though we kind of liked the swine flu idea) and went to the Costume How-to’s, a mix of quirky and conventional do-it-yourself suggestions. If you have a popular figure in mind (say, Hannah Montana) or a basic concept (say, Nordic), the site will tell you where to find the lowest priced accoutrements.
