So much to do, so little time -- and so many event listings and Facebook invites to comb through! Lucky for you, we here at TNGG Boston can also fill in as your social planners. Each week, we’ll feature a few weekend events we think you should check out.* If you know of an upcoming event that might appeal to our audience, email firstname.lastname@example.org with the details.
*Note: TNGG is not receiving compensation of any kind to promote these events. We just think they sound like fun!
Thursday, April 26: The Divining Rod Launch Party. Didn’t quite drink enough wine at least weekend’s Wine Riot? Join Second Glass and “water witch”/winemaker Marc Mondavi as they uncork some of the first bottles from C. Mondavi & Sons’ new “The Divining Rod” line. During the event, Mondavi will demonstrate how he uses divining rods to find the best water sources for their vineyards (hence the line’s name). All proceeds from the event will go to (what else?) charity: water. When and Where: 7 p.m.-9 p.m. @ Back Bay Social Club (867 Boylston St.).
Saturday, April 28-Sunday, April 29: StartLabs’ Social Good Hackathon. For 24 hours, participants in this hackathon will use their skills “for good instead of evil.” Working with mentors from Mozilla, fundraise.com, RedStar Ventures, and AltrUHelp, teams will “create the most socially beneficial, impressively designed, and well-implemented website or application.” When and Where: Competition begins on Saturday at noon @ Cambridge Innovation Center (One Broadway, Kendall Square).
Saturday, April 28: Extravaganja 2012. Still going strong after more than 20 years, Extravaganja is the UMass Amherst Cannabis Reform Coalition’s annual political rally, music festival, and celebration of all things grass (the other kind). While TNGG Boston doesn’t condone marijuana use -- remember, it’s still illegal; it’s just not criminal -- what you do if you attend the festival is your own business. When and Where: noon-6 p.m. @ Amherst Town Common (Pleasant Street and College Street, Amherst).
Sunday, April 29: A Cappella Palooza. NBC’s hit show The Sing-Off is taking its act on the road for this one-night-only fundraiser to benefit the Mass General Cancer Center. Hosted by Ben Folds and featuring four of the show’s top acts -- Pentatonix, The Dartmouth Aires, Delilah, and North Shore -- as well as a special performance from Boston University’s Dear Abbeys, this event is a can’t-miss for the city’s a cappella fans. When and Where: 7 p.m. @ Agganis Arena (925 Comm Ave., Allston).
