january 2012 events calendar.jpgSo much to do, so little time -- and so many event listings and Facebook invites to comb through! Lucky for you, we here at TNGG Boston can also fill in as your social planners. Each week, we’ll feature a few weekend events we think you should check out.* If you know of an upcoming event that might appeal to our audience, email with the details.

*Note: TNGG is not receiving compensation of any kind to promote these events. We just think they sound like fun!

Thursday, Jan. 5-Saturday, Jan. 7: Improv Asylum’s Life Before Sext. Looking for a laugh? Start your night with a nice Italian dinner and a glass of wine at one of the North End’s tasty restaurants, then head down Hanover Street to this comedy club. “The cast yearns for those days when things were a little more simple,” says Improv Asylum’s website. And since it’s improv comedy, you never quite know what will happen. When and Where: 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 10 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays @ Improv Asylum (216 Hanover St., North End).

Saturday, Jan. 7: Murder at the Art Museum Scavenger Hunt. Put on your detective hat and get ready to do your best Sherlock Holmes (Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Mary-Kate and Ashley, whoever) impression. “A curator has been murdered and left a trail of clues connected with secrets in works of art,” explains the hunt’s website. “As your team gathers answers about the art, you begin to piece together a sordid tale about greed, lust, pride, revenge, and treachery.” Grab your friends -- students get a small discount on the registration price -- and see if you can crack the case! When and Where: 1 p.m. @ Museum of Fine Arts (465 Huntington Ave., Fenway).

Saturday, Jan. 7: Cocktails for a Cause. It’s a Boston tradition to spend Patriots’ Day drinking and cheering on Boston Marathon runners, so, uh, “start training” early this year at this event to benefit four members of the Marathon’s Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training. A $15 donation will get you in the door, but bring cash for drinks, 50/50 tickets, and raffles -- and remember that it’s going to a good cause. When and Where: 6 p.m.-8 p.m. @ The Brahmin (33 Stanhope St., Back Bay).

Sunday, Jan. 8: The No Pants Subway Ride Boston 2012. For many reasons (germs, the sketchiness factor, the potential for arrest, etc.), it’s safe to assume most of us wouldn’t be caught dead on the T without pants; but, as they say, “When in Rome...”. Improv Everywhere began the yearly ride in New York City in 2002, and it’s since spread around the globe; the Societies of Spontaneity runs the Boston event, which includes an after-party open to all. Be sure to RSVP on Facebook or register via S.O.S.’s site to get details on the starting place -- or, you know, just look for the T car with all the pants-less people. When and Where: 2 p.m. @ Location TBD. After-party begins at 4 p.m. @ Kings Back Bay (50 Dalton St.).

Tell us what you’re doing this weekend in the comments!
