5 Somerville bars for true locals
Between Teele and Davis Squares, you'll never have to leave Somerville for a drink with your friends. You could even head to Harvard Square and make your evening into a Cambridge/Somerville bar crawl.
Here are some awesome local bars to check out in the area.
The Burren (247 Elm St., Davis Square). The Burren is a great little Irish pub and restaurant right in Davis Square with a modest beer selection and great entertainment. My favorite night to go is Tuesday, for their long-standing open mic night, which showcases a lot of local talent in a variety of music genres. The Burren also occasionally has live bands on weekends. I once went while some sort of stand-up bass-wielding cover band was playing. It was a fuzzy night, but I do have photos in my phone to prove its awesome credibility.
Orleans Restaurant (65 Holland St., Davis Square). For a little sophistication, check out Orleans. Come early for a delicious dinner, and stay late for a swanky good time near the Davis Square T stop. Be sure to stop by on Wednesday for trivia and Saturday for karaoke. Who doesn’t love a bit of off-key singing to start the night?
Rosebud Bar and Grill (381 Summer St., Davis Square). The Rosebud is one of the most interesting bars I've ever been to: It looks like a ‘50s diner parked on the side of the road, but it also functions as a full bar at night. They have live music some nights, so check out their Facebook page for more info.
Rudy’s Café and Tequila Bar (248 Holland St., Teele Square). Don’t let the horrendous website stop you from checking out this Teele Square local spot, which offers the best selection of tequila and margaritas galore. ¡Ole
PJ Ryan’s (239 Holland St., Teele Square). PJ Ryan’s is a quality, all-American bar situated right down Holland Street from Davis Square, in Teele Square. Get some snacks and great beer, or come on a Tuesday night for trivia (can you tell I love trivia?).
What’s your favorite Somerville bar?
Cambridge and Somerville have great places to grab a drink, but if you find yourself riding the Green Line to Kenmore Square or Allston, check out these spots, too.
